The firm was founded in 1984 by Michael MacSweeney. In 1993, he was joined by Dermot O'Sullivan to form a partnership. In 2003, the company moved from its previous premises in the South Mall, Cork to new premises at Bridge House, Skehard Road, Blackrock, Cork. In 2006 Colum McCarthy became a partner.

Partners

Dermot O'Sullivan AITI

Dermot joined the Firm in 1989 and became partner in 1993. He was previously Personal Tax Manager with Deloitte & Touche. He has developed the tax consultancy division of MacSweeney & Co. and has extensive knowledge in all areas of personal/corporate taxation. He has a wealth of experience in dealing with company redundancies and the related tax, social welfare and financial issues. He also lectures extensively.

Colum McCarthy FCPA, AITI

Colum joined the Firm in 1995 and became a Partner in 2006. He is in charge of the small business area of the firm and specialises in IT. Colum was admitted as a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 1994 and the Irish Taxation Institute in 1996. He has extensive experience in Revenue Audit and Revenue settlement negotiations. He also arranges asset and mortgage finance for clients and has broad experience of negotiations with financial institutions on behalf of clients.

Mervyn Good ACA, AITI

Mervyn specialises in the firm's consultancy assignments, particularly in the areas of business, IT and HR Consultancy and also works in the areas of business recovery and insolvency. He was admitted as an associate of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Irish Taxation Institute in 1999. Having trained in small practice, he spent a number of years in a "Big 4" practice, before joining MacSweeney & Co. in 2002. He dealt mainly with the firm's medium sized corporate clients before leaving in 2006 to work as audit manager in a medium sized practice. He rejoined MacSweeney & Co. in 2008

Our People

Maria Muldowney

Maria joined the Firm in 2001. She is Office Manager and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the practice. She is also Personal Assistant to Colum McCarthy and Dermot O`Sullivan.

Gerard O'Mahony CPA

Gerard joined the firm in 2006. He holds a degree in Business Studies from the Waterford Institute of Technology. He was admitted as a member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in 2001. He deals with a mix of corporate and personal clients, with special emphasis on the Firm's retail and medical clients.

Susan MacSweeney ACA

Susan qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 2007 after training with PWC and joined the Firm that year. She now deals with the Firm's corporate and personal clients with special emphasis on the Firm's legal client base.
